Longarm Quilting - turn around time 7-10 days.
I offer several different styles and prices for longarm quilting, including edge-to-edge (E2E) designs in 3 different density categories. See below for the pricing and also the gallery of E2E patterns available. I also offer batting and binding services.
Longarm quilting is really an art, and each artist is different. For pictures of my work, please visit the Gallery page. Each longarm quilter will have a different set of "rules" and quilt preparation guidelines. For mine, please visit the Quilt Prep page.
Always remember to communicate likes and dislikes; do you like flowers but dislike hearts? I need to know! Share your vision for the quilt - and don't assume I'll have the same one! Be open to suggestions.
To be able to easily estimate the cost of your quilt, here are some examples of calculations for Perimeter Inch (PI) (for binding prices) and Square Inch (SI) (for thread, batting, and quilting). The prices below do not include tax, which is currently 8.13%.
To calculate the PI of your quilt, simply add the dimensions of each side of your quilt. For a quilt 50" x 70" you would add 50 + 50 + 70 + 70 for a total of 240 Perimeter Inches. If you wanted to estimate the cost for Binding #3 you would multiply 240 x 0.25 (price per PI of Binding #3) for an estimated binding cost of $60.00.
To calculate the SI of your quilt, simply multiply the length by the width of your quilt. For a quilt 50" x 70" you would multiply 50 x 70 for a total of 3,500 Square Inches. Using that figure, your quilt would cost $5.00 for thread (since it is under 4,900 SI). To estimate the cost of Warm and Natural batting, you would multiply 3500 x 0.006 (price per SI of Warm and Natural batting) for an estimated batting cost of $21.00. To estimate the cost of quilting using a pantograph from Group B you would multiply 3500 x 0.023 (price per SI of Group B pantographs) for an estimated quilting cost of $80.50.
If you have trouble estimating the cost of your quilt, please contact me and I'd be happy to provide you with a written estimate.
Many quilts look absolutely stunning when quilted with an edge-to-edge (E2E) pantograph design, or even an all-over meander. An E2E design is a design that is quilted over the entire quilt, regardless of blocks and/or borders. E2E designs are quilted with only 1 top thread color and 1 bobbin thread color; thread color changes are not an option. I do most of my E2E designs using a pantograph. A pantograph is a continuous-line pattern on a long roll of paper that is "traced" with a stylus or laser. The different rows of the quilting usually interlock for a seamless look. The quilting runs from edge to edge with no breaks in the pattern.
I offer 3 different categories of pantograph E2E designs, sorted by density. Group A is the least dense, and Group C is the most dense. All of the designs offer a sufficient amount of quilting. I also offer meandering in a low/medium density, it is priced with Group A E2E Patterns. All E2E and meandering prices are calculated by the square inch (SI). I have a minimum charge of $50.00 for E2E quilting. Scroll down to view pricing and pictures of the different groups
A lot of my customers choose to spend their time piecing tops - the fun part of quilting! With this in mind, I offer binding services to help you finish your quilt as painlessly as possible. I'm happy to piece your backing fabric for $10.00 per seam. I'll even bind your quilt for you, returning a 100% finished product! I offer 2 different binding options, each calculated by perimeter inch (PI).
#1: Binding is made and applied to quilt top; customer finishes by hand or machine sewing ~ $0.10 per PI
#2: Binding is made and applied to quilt top and then hand-stitched to the quilt back; binding is 100% completed upon return ~ $0.25 PI
The above prices include the making of the binding as I prefer to make it myself if I'll be applying it. I use 2.5" wide strips and I piece the seams on a diagonal for minimal bulk. I use a 3/8" seam allowance when applying the binding, leaving a nice, full filling.
I currently stock Warm and Natural batting that is available for purchase. I have found this batting to be my favorite, but I will gladly use batting you supply, as long as the batting is strong enough to stand up to being loaded on the longarm machine. If in doubt, take the batting in both hands and gently pull. If a hole starts to form, it won't last during the loading process and therefor cannot be used. If you choose to use my batting, I only charge you for the size of your quilt top. This will save you from having to buy a packaged batting that will result in waste. Batting prices are calculated by square inch (SI).
Warm and Natural is my go-to batting for most of my quilt projects. This batting has a great drape, feel, and weight.
Warm and Natural batting is $0.006 per SI, and there is a $10.00 minimum charge.
The thread I use for longarm quilting is very important; it holds your quilt together. I use only the highest quality threads that have proven their worth to me. I offer a rainbow of different colors. These threads have stood the test of time, washings, wear and tear, and use on the machine. Because I have a relationship with my threads and how they run on my machine, I don't accept threads from my customers.
My thread charges are determined by the square inch of your quilt, and include 1 color top thread and 1 color bobbin thread. For quilts under 4,900 SI the fee is $5.00; for quilts 4,900 SI or larger the fee is $8.00.
